ACTORS VOICE WORKSHOP

THINK BREATHE SPEAK COLLABORATION WORKSHOP WITH LINDSAY GIBSON

This series allows you to get to know your body better than anyone else. During this 3 day Actors Voice Workshop, you will come to understand the ‘brain, body connection’; a safe way to access your emotions, release stored tension, and feel more comfortable in front of the camera or on stage. Lindsay’s approach to teaching voice is full of support, heart, inclusivity & safety.

To think about body placement, To breathe at our optimal level, To speak with intention.

Release the stagnation and encourage an overall feeling of acceptance in self so you can let go of control and allow your art to shine bright. We introduce the series “THINK BREATHE SPEAK”, and welcome you to join our workshop to get your biggest Acting tool in top shape.

Class Daily Structure:

Day 1 (THINK): Getting to know ourselves kindly, the do's and don'ts of vocal hygiene, exercises to help us aid in lung support and skeletal positioning, nervous system regulation, mindful exercises to get comfortable in our own vulnerability.

Day 2 (BREATHE): Exercises to continue opening up the vocal mechanism, finding your optimum pitch, rigorous exercises to help relax the body, massage ball tools, introduction to monologues (do not need to memorize, we will workshop).

Day 3 (SPEAK): Recap of the exercises you learnt (so you can do them properly on your own before auditions, or performances), consonant work, Breath bars, nouns and verbs, safe projecting/yelling, memorizing techniques, monologue play.

Voice Acting Workshop Information:

KIDS ACTING

KIDS CLASSES THIS FALL

Kids will learn the basics of how to take a character from the page into a fully real life person! Using a blend of Scene Study, and Acting on Camera techniques - students will learn both the basics of acting, and develop techniques for Acting on Camera! This class is most of all for FUN, and will help build confidence for speaking in front of other people - which is also a skill set for life!

We will learn: Script Analysis, Voice and Movement, Camera Techniques and Film lingo, and How to find the spark that makes you, YOU -and build on that!

Kids Acting Information:

Tween & Teen ACTING

Tween and Teen CLASSES THIS FALL

This class is ideal for tweens and teens, ages 11 to 15, who are ready to work their acting muscles on a regular basis. We focus on using the "given circumstances" of the script to mine the context of the story—understanding the narrative, exploring characters, and unleashing your unique creativity to deliver authentic, engaging, on-camera performances.

Students' acting toolkit will expand, encompassing both technical and creative skills. We'll explore how framing and angles can influence a scene, learn how to use lighting to your advantage, and understand the projection of various camera lenses. On the creative side, students will gain confidence in using physicality and vocal adjustments to shape a character, along with developing backstory and motivation, allowing actors to make rich choices that deepen the narrative and ultimately... maximize the fun!

We use both contemporary and classic material ensuring actors are prepared for a variety of roles, especially with so much filming happening locally here in BC.

ADULT ACTING ON CAMERA

ADULT ACTING CLASSES THIS fall

Actors will have the opportunity to work with one of Victoria's busiest actors and in-demand acting coaches.‍ Students will film scenes “self tape style” and then deconstruct them together with Hilary for a better understanding of auditioning for the camera, in an individualized way. Every two weeks, the actor will receive a new set of audition sides two days before class, so they can both practice the fast pace of “appointment to self tape”, while still having the time to flesh out a fuller background and environment for their character. Your coach Hilary, shares 20 plus years of experience working in theatre and in Film and TV with world class directors, including Greg Daniels, Larry Charles, and Matthew Carnahan.

Class Weekly Structure:

Week 1: Present your audition and then deconstruct it with Hilary.

Week 2: Explore and refine information gathered from the first week. Discuss and breakdown both the technical and storytelling points that serve the material and why.

Week 3: Present your new audition and build upon what we learned in week 1 & 2.

Week 4: Flesh out and elevate your work from week 3, and refine your personal process as to what works best for you - to bring to your next audition.

Adult Acting On Camera Information:

Dates: September 10th- October 1st, October 15th- November 5th, November 12th- December 3rd
Times: 5:30-9:30 PM
One month session: $350 + GST

ADULT SCENE STUDY CLASS (ONLINE)

ONLINE ADULT SCENE STUDY WITH DEBS HOWARD

This is our chance to dive in! In this four week class, we’ll explore two different scenes over two different genres, and take a deep dive into all things scene study - script analysis, arc, subtext, motivation, status, tactics, discoveries, backstory, relationships, and stakes. We’ll also explore character development with the use of music, posture, movement, and voice.

This class is for anyone wanting to sharpen their tools and explore all the wonderful possibilities of telling an honest story through scene study.

Adult Scene Study Class Information:
